a website dedicated to the tracking of political news during the last 100 days before the 2008 US General Election. the simple frequency graph represents the number of references to Obama vs McCain mentioned in recent news articles by day, quite similar to a traditional population pyramid.

Emotionally Vague Survey Results

a collection of mainly graphical results from a research project that focused on revealing how people feel anger, joy, fear, sadness & love. a simple survey asked 250 participants between the ages of 6 & 75 years from 35 different countries to graphically represent these emotions on a set of human silhouettes. the resulting drawings were compiled in layered Photoshop documents. in addition, participants could express emotions textually or choose appropriate colors. the text results were analyzed on frequency, while the color choices determine a DNA-like frequency pattern.

a time-based bubble chart of the number of past olympic medals won by countries. circles are mapped on a geographical world map or can be ranked by size. the circle size is determined by the number of medals each country won in past summer Olympic Games.

a visualization of the 2008 US movie box office revenues. each graph shows the trends in the top 25 movies at the box office for each weekend in a year. the color is based on the movie’s debut week so that long-running movies gradually start to stand out from newer movies with different colors.

a visual bookshelf browser of over 21,000 books from Amazon’s catalog. books are visualized as stacks in shelves, with covers ordered alphabetically by author & organized by genre. following the typical Google Map interaction metaphor,users can click & drag across Zoomii’s landscape of shelves, zoom in & out, or select a book’s cover to receive basic statistical information.

a data visualisation tool which tries to analyze the debate sparked by the BBC White season of programs which aired on BBC2. the interface shows a number of particles floating around in space. each particle represents a sentence taken from the debate & is assigned a color corresponding to the type of emotion (i.e. anger, fear, hurt, confusion, happiness & caring) word found in the sentence.

particles also have a size which reflects the intensity of the emotion expressed & a brightness which indicates the average consensus (agreement/disagreement) on the comment. comments can be spatially clustered by their attributes & particles can be filtered to show exactly what the user would like to see at any given time.

an “organic software visualization” that shows the history of commits in a software project. a “commit” happens when a developer makes changes to the code or documents & transfers them into the central project repository.

both developers and files are represented as moving elements. when a developer commits a file, it lights up & flies towards that developer. files are colored according to their purpose, such as whether they are source code or a document. if files or developers have not been active for a while, they will fade away. A histogram at the bottom keeps a reminder of what has come before.

the website provides links towards visualizations of different software projects, including Eclipse, Phyton, PostgreSQL & Apache.
